Leather Sectional Sofa
Living room sectionals are a relatively new style of couch furniture. As such, you would expect them to feature modern design features, and the majority of them do. Such design features often include things like light and durable synthetic fabrics, sleek shapes, and a wide array of colors. However, if you prefer the look of classic style furniture, a leather sectional sofa may offer the touch of timeless enduring beauty that you are looking for.
There are a number of reasons why leather has throughout the centuries been a preferred material to upholster furniture. The obvious advantage is that it has a sophistication and elegance about it that cannot be duplicated by any other material, much less by a cheap synthetic. Furthermore, while furniture companies tout the durabilty and low maintenance requirements of sectionals made with synthetic fabrics, genuine leather sectional sofas are simply far more durable. Yes, they do require frequent treatments to keep the leather nice and pliable but you will find that they are actually more resistant to tearing and staining than sectionals made with synthetic fabrics. Lastly, leather sectional sofas are far more comfortable than their synthetic counterparts, providing better cushion and a suppleness that feels great right against your skin.
Some leather sectional sofas have a very traditional look. The model shown below, for example, offers features such as oversized boxed cushions, natural nailing along the arm panels, and bun accent feet. These will also often have a high gloss finish which feels really soft and smooth. These are usually not very supportive (firm) but instead are really soft and allow the user to sink in comfort.
For a leather sectional sofa with a mix of modern and classic appearances, consider purchasing a tufted model, such as the one shown here.
The embedded buttons found throughout the upholstery are a familiar design feature that you’ll see on old world furnishings. This helps to add more intricate detail as a display of finer craftsmanship, not only visually but also by touch. However, these particular tufted leather sectionals also display some contemporary design features as well, such as their clean straight lines, metal framing, and overall “floating” or “modular” feel. Furthermore, they offer enhanced support. That is, instead of having seperate boxed cushions, they usually have a single, non articulated firm cushion lining the entire surface, which offers a more solid foundation across the underside and backside. In addition to being a bit firmer, sitting on these tufted models produces a rather nice massaging effect due to the tighter grid like stitching on the cushions.
